She’s Actually Cute!

These three words, “She’s actually cute!” came from Cayden’s mouth one day. It took me quite by surprise because I had never thought otherwise.

He said it as if it was the most surprising thing to him.  Like he had never seen a baby that was cute before.  As if babies could be anything but cute.  (OK. Some are not so cute.  But we would never say so out loud, right?)

Of course I always thought Peyton adorable.  She is my little girl after all. (Not saying she gets her looks from me though).  But I had to take an even better look to see if I could see what had sparked Cayden’s exhuberant statement  I could only confirm that, yes, Peyton is “actually cute”.

Our Singing Salesman

To our surprise, Peyton and I enjoyed our very own personal serenade.  We were at a local furniture store, testing out some new seating, when the salesman came over.  Even before I could tell him what we were in search for, he burst out in song.

SOMEWHERE OVER THE RAINBOW

Somewhere over the rainbow
Way up high,
There's a land that I heard of
Once in a lullaby.
Somewhere over the rainbow
Skies are blue,
And the dreams that you dare to dream
Really do come true.
Someday I'll wish upon a star
And wake up where the clouds are far
Behind me.
Where troubles melt like lemon drops
Away above the chimney tops
That's where you'll find me.
Somewhere over the rainbow
Bluebirds fly.
Birds fly over the rainbow.
Why then, oh why can't I?
If happy little bluebirds fly
Beyond the rainbow
Why, oh why can't I?

Peyton’s eyes opened wide.  My jaw dropped in amazement.  We stood there in awe, listening to his wonderful voice.  If I wasn’t in a  rush to pick-up Cayden at school, I would have been tempted to sit there all afternoon, listening to him sing.

I look forward to my next visit to the store to enjoy another serenade.

Schnookums Hair Bows

Peyton was born with an amazing amount beautiful hair.  Trust me, I paid for it with some serious heartburn.  It was all worth it.  Her dad, Jeremy has had it pointed out on a number of occasions that his baby girl has more hair than he does.  Oh, to point out the obvious.  He can only laugh and feel a lot of pride for having such a beautiful daughter.

From the first week of her life Peyton has been wearing her Schnookums Bows. Anything to help tame her lovely locks.  I absolutely love these little hair barrettes, as they are so far the only ones that manage to stay in her hair.

Peyton has been wearing this one barrette ever since and now has come the time to add some more of these little beauties to coordinate with her super cute outfits.  So, I am having an e-party.  The last day to order and get this great deal is tomorrow, March 3.

Peyton Found Her Thumb!

I am a “thumb sucker” snob.  I know it is a strong statement to make but I am a firm believer that a soother is a better alternative to a thumb sucker.  I like the concept that a soother can be taken away when a child reaches a certain age, but the thumb is a different story.

You can imagine what I felt when I looked down at Peyton, only to find a thumb in her mouth!  First came horror.  Then came a sigh.  Followed by, “Oh my goodness!  How precious.  Just look at her sucking her thumb.”  Yep. Those were my the words that came out of my mouth.

After all the ‘oohing and awwing’, I took Peyton’s thumb out of her mouth and quickly replaced it with her soother.  I’m sure I will have to do this many more times, as it does seem she prefers her thumb.  But, I’m still the “thumb sucker” snob and will persist.
